Storm Damage in Northenden

By Lee Cavanagh January 2005

If you read the Codgers' Diary this month you will see that I have been viciously attacked for contributing to the site. It doesn't seem to matter that without me the whole thing wouldn't get published at all! Apparently geeky code monkeys can't write. So, I was tempted not to write anything, just put the pictures up. But just before I went out to take the pictures, a tree blew down outside Vernon's house and smashed his roof in. I am therefore going to write a huge article about the moaning old git whingeing about the council and his landing carpet... and I'm not going to let him delete it.

First though here are Adam's pictures of the trees at the end of Homewood Road. Three trees have been damaged by the storm, one is completely uprooted. (It's now February and this still hasn't been sorted out... perhaps it's being left to the property developer who's bought the field!)

This tree was blown down right across the road. We were out there as soon as it happened and lucky to catch it because the van came and shifted it within half an hour!

And now, some pictures of Vern's house... These two pictures show the tree through the roof and the contractor who was sent round by the council to have a look.

Because Vern and Ethel weren't in when it happened, there was a lot of water damage which they couldn't do anything about... When they arrived back at the house, they let me in and I took a couple of photos when they weren't looking. Vern's loft conversion (built by Vinnie and his mates, I hope that bloke from the council didn't see it) got a nice leafy new skylight... his bathroom ceiling and carpet were completely gutted... just like the man himself... and just to put the cherry on it... the whole of his upstairs needs rewiring! Good job you don't have to pay for it eh Vern?

BOOM! Just rewire the whole lot!
