Local Issues That Really Matter - Now!
Northenden.NET News Index - 2007
- January 2007: Barrow Motors Site Cleared
The site of legendary Northenden motor company BARROWS was bought by an enterprising local property developer,
after the closure of the retailer following a dip in demand for Yugos and Ladas. After the site goes to rack and ruin,
an invincible newly elected Labour Club councillor single-handedly has the place demolished. We present the story in
pictures of this Herculaean struggle (That means a big ball-ache, kids).
- March 2007: Northenden Websites Attacked By Expert Computer Hackers
An extremely successful local website run by Northenden Committee has been mercilessly spammed with ten-year-old
jokes from Viz and sundry inuendo involving has-been "adult" actors cavorting in Stretford Precinct. Our undercover
journalists expose the scoundrel responsible - and save the Committee a few red faces.
- April 2007: Two More Sightings of "Black Panther" in Northenden
Earlier this year, our sister website, which is run by the Civic Society, was sent a numer of messages relating
to sightings of a large black cat in Heald Green. We ignored it - that's Gatley's problem isn't it. Some people will
sneak anything into their hand luggage. Now, two further sightings a little closer to home have prompted a major
investigation by two top Northenden investigative journalists.
- June 2007: Congestion Charge: Didsbury snobs to be hit hardest
Outraged Northenden residents have accused Labour controlled Manchester Council of fabricating information about
the proposed congestion charge, wasting money on expensive leaflets for every household, and lying to the very people
who continuously vote them in. Here we exclusively reveal that the congestion charge is an excellent idea and that
the exclusion zone is in fact in Didsbury - saving Northenden motorists on average, 60 cigs a week plus a couple of
scratch cards.
- June 2007: Last Orders For The Tatton Arms
Two more of Northenden's best loved watering holes are now closed, pending redevelopment as luxury flats. We
exclusively publish the plans for redevelopment, and offer the landlord of the Spread a few friendly words - I'd be
worried if I were you mate.
- September 2007: Farmers Market Restored To Northenden Village
Northenden was famous during the middle ages as being a completely self-sufficient community, centred around
thriving farms and generating its own electricity by burning cow pats. Now, council leaders have restored our
market to Palatine road, in a well meant tribute to our heritage. And absolutely NOT an excuse for Labour Club and
the Lib Dems to score points off each other before the local elections, no way Jose.
- November 2007: Committee Rubbish Tip's Towers
Local Committee Bosses have slammed proposals by the council to build two huge gas towers at Northenden Tip,
calling them a monstrosity despite the plans never having been seen. Well now you can see for yourselves as we publish
the first artist's impression of these impressive landmarks.
